Note: This comes from a large series of nudes made by the artists in the ’20’s and 30’s. They are generally with loose lines and unanatomical in presentation. They have a power and fascination way above their apparently simplistic lines.
Edition: 12/25 . Duthuit notes 2 Trial Proofs and also 2 State Proofs. 3 proofs were struck from the cancelled plate.

The Lumley Cazalet Gallery (1967 - 2001) was based in Davies Street and dealt in 20th century French art. They enjoyed close links with members of the Matisse family from whom this work comes.
