Les exemplaires sur toile ont été illustrés à la main par Fernand Léger lui-même. Les exemplaires sur papier Auvergne, dont celui-ci, ont été décorés au pochoir par Albert Jon d'après la composition originale de l'artiste. Pierre Seghers a dirigé la mise en œuvre de ce poème-objet et l'imprimerie Union à Paris en a assuré la réalisation.
Cette célèbre ode à la Liberté fut publiée clandestinement dans Poésie et Vérité pendant l'occupation, en avril 1942.
Fernand Léger a conçu l'ouvrage sous l'aspect d'un grand placard imprimé, illustré de couleurs vives, replié en accordéon. Le visage de Paul Eluard pensif, du vert, du bleu, du jaune et du rouge, et ces quelques mots "Liberté, j’écris ton nom " ouvrent la vision de Fernand Léger, magnifique hommage de l'artiste au poète disparu l'année précédente d'une crise cardiaque.
Très bel état de conservation avec les coloris lumineux. L'œuvre est insérée dans le rare étui de rhodoïd éditeur titré au dos, en excellent état de conservation, malgré un petit manque et une usure superficielle au titre, et compte tenu de la matière sensible au temps.

First illustrated edition of the historical poem "Liberté j'écris ton nom" (Liberty, I write your name).
The colophon states: "Fernand Léger created this artist's book based on the poem by his friend Paul Eluard. First edition completed on October 22, 1913."…
The copies on cloth were hand-illustrated by Fernand Léger himself. The copies on Auvergne paper, including this one, were decorated using stencils by Albert Jon based on the artist's original design. Pierre Seghers oversaw the creation of this poem-object, and the Union printing house in Paris produced it.
This famous ode to Liberty was published clandestinely in "Poésie et Vérité" during the Occupation, in April 1942. Fernand Léger conceived the work as a large printed placard, vividly illustrated and folded accordion-style. The pensive face of Paul Éluard, the green, blue, yellow, and red hues, and the words "Liberty, I write your name" open Fernand Léger's vision, a magnificent tribute from the artist to the poet who had died the previous year of a heart attack.
In very fine condition with luminous colors. The work is housed in the rare publisher's rhodoid slipcase, titled on the spine, which is in excellent condition, despite a small tear and superficial wear to the title, and considering the material's susceptibility to age.
