Warhol completed the Reigning Queens series in 1985, two years before his death. The series includes portraits of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands, Queen Ntombi Twala of Swaziland, and Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. Warhol later released a “Royal Edition” of the portfolio, in which he added diamond dust to enhance the elegance of the imagery.
