Pablo Picasso — L’Écuyère (The Horsewoman), 1960
Original lithograph printed at Atelier Mourlot, Paris

This striking black-and-white lithograph by Pablo Picasso, titled L’Écuyère (The Horsewoman, Scène de cirque), was created on April 21–22, 1960, and belongs to the artist’s celebrated circus-themed series. L’Écuyère was published by the newspaper Le Patriote in Nice, France.

Printed by the legendary Atelier Mourlot in Paris, this lithograph bears a printed signature in the lower right and printed date in the upper right, both rendered in the stone. It comes from the limited edition of 1,000 impressions, separate from a smaller edition of 200 signed and numbered prints on Arches paper.

The work is illustrated in Picasso: 60 Years of Graphic Works (Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 1967, p. 143), underscoring its significance within Picasso’s graphic output.

With its expressive linework and evocative subject, this work is a powerful example of Picasso’s graphic mastery and his fascination with the poetic symbolism of the circus.
