In this delightful image created for the Tourist Bureau, one of Pablo Picasso's images is used to suggest a visit to the Cote D'Azur or Riviera, site of the Film Festival and many other popular activities. This same image was printed using the text Cannes as well. It is the version with Cannes that is very rare.
The viewer is shown the lure of the Mediterranean as well as the tranquility of the area. A similar style of image was also created by Henri Matisse with the title of Nice Travail et Joie. Both Picasso and Matisse lived in the area for many years.
This is one of the very few hand-signed posters from the edition where Picasso personally signed the bottom in his distinct laissez-faire use of red crayon.
