Printmaking Techniques

Intaglio: A family of printmaking techniques where the image is incised into a surface. Ink is held in the incised lines below the surface and pressed into paper under high pressure on a roller press. Includes etching, drypoint, engraving, aquatint, and mezzotint.

Pochoir: A refined hand-coloring stencil method popular in Paris from the late 19th century through the Art Deco era. Master artists applied rich watercolor layers by hand, producing vibrant tones indistinguishable from original hand-painted works.
