Pierre de Ronsard – Les Amours de Cassandre, illustrated by Salvador Dalí
Éditions Argillet, Paris, 1968
Michler & Löpsinger 248–265; Field 68-2
Fine and complete bibliophile edition of Ronsard’s Les Amours de Cassandre, luxuriously illustrated by Salvador Dalí with a full suite of original heliogravures. This is Exemplar No. 262, one of the 165 copies on Arches blanc, each copy hand-numbered and bearing Dalí’s characteristic autograph signature together with the publisher’s embossed stamp “à l’empreinte de Dalí,” as stipulated by Argillet.
The book contains the full sequence of Dalí’s original plates (M&L 248–265; Field 68-2), printed in rich, crisp impressions on large Arches sheets with deckle edges. The condition is mint, exceptionally well preserved, with fresh, clean pages, strong impressions, pristine guards, and a perfectly maintained binding and slipcase. No foxing, no toning, no handling marks.
A rare and highly desirable Argillet/Dalí illustrated book, especially in such flawless condition and with the authentic Dalí autograph as issued. One of the most important Dalí livre-d’artiste projects of the 1960s, combining classic French poetry with Dalí’s refined graphic work of the period.
