| 1901 - | Jean Dubuffet is born in Havre as son to a father who is a wine merchant. |
1917 - | Dubuffet takes courses at the Havre School of Fine Arts. Next year he will enrol in the Julian Academy in Paris. |
1924 - | Dubuffet stops painting (he will only restart 10 years later). He departs for Buenos Aires where he will vacation for 4 months. |
1930 - | Jean Dubuffet funds a wholesale wine venture in Bercy. |
1942 - | Dubuffet no longer dedicates himself only to painting. In 1944 the Drouin Gallery welcomes his first personal exhibition. |
1948 - | Dubuffet meets André Breton. He creates the “Art Brut” company. |
1951 - | Dubuffet lives for 3 months in New York where he meets the painter Jackson Pollock. |
1958 - | Dubuffet begins a series lithographs called "The Phenomenon". |
1962 - | Installation of the Paris Art Brut (Outsider Art) Collection, rue de Sèvres. Dubuffet begins the major Hourloupe series. |
1969 - | New York’s Chase Manhattan Bank commissions a monument by Dubuffet. |
1971 - | Dubuffet creates the first components for the "Cuckoo Bazaar" exhibition |
1974 - | Dubuffet creates the model of the Summer Salon commissioned by Renault. Beginning of the series of sketches. Creation of the Jean Dubuffet Foundation. |
1982 - | Random Sites Series. |
1984 - | Nowhere Series. Dubuffet creates his last painting called "Impulses". |
